Description	:	Darwin L Riese, 79, Marshalltown, died Thursday, October 1, 2002 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Services were held Saturday, October 5, at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, with Pastor Daniel Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Mr Riese was born November 24, 1922 in Minerva township, at the family home, the son of Edgar and Florence Thake Riese. On June 18, 1944 at the St John Lutheran Church in rural State Center he was united in married to Hope Armbrecht, and she survives. There are also five children surviving: Louis (Janice) Riese of Marshalltown; Judy (Mrs Paul) Tieg of Roland; Glen (Lori) Riese of St Anthony; Karen Hill of Omaha, Nebraska; and Rebecca (Mrs Ted) Baedke of Marshalltown. Eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren also survive. Two sisters survive: Lorinda (Mrs Marvin) Pfantz of State Center and Fern (Mrs Hillis) Becker of Zearing. His parents preceded him in death. Raised and educated in rural State Center, Mr Riese attended the St John Parochial School. Following his schooling he began farming with his father and later took over the farm. Besides farming he was a cattle feeder and also had Jersey cattle. In April of 1987 they retired and moved to Marshalltown and have made their home there since that time. He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, the State Center Farmers Creamery Cooperative Board, and had been the Sunday School Superintendent at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center.
