He died March 9, 1997 at Melissa Memorial Hospital in Holyoke. Daryl attended parochial school in Amherst and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1943. He served for two and one-half years with the Army Signal Corps in Europe during World War II as a cable splicer. Upon returning to Holyoke, Daryl, along with his father and brother, did electrical wiring, mostly in rural areas. He worked for Highline Electric in 1948, then moved to Alaska for seven months in 1949 for bigger dreams. He started as a lineman for Phillips County Telephone Company in 1950 and became the manager in 1952. Daryl worked for the phone company until his retirement at the end of 1990. He served as president of the Colorado Independent Telephone Association and the Rocky Mountain Telephone Association. On May 28, 1955, Daryl was united in marriage to Rita Donjon of Imperial, Nebraska at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imperial. Daryl was very active in the community. He served on the Holyoke Town Board for seven years and as mayor for seven years. He was the district president of the municipal league group. He was on the Housing Authority board and a member of the Homerule Charter Commission. Daryl was a retired fireman, having completed 26 years of service including the ranks of office. Daryl served on parish council for St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Holyoke and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Kropp served on the local credit union board of directors, was a past commnder of VFW Post 6482, a member of American Legion Post 90 and board member for the Veterans Club. In addition, he was a past president of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and served again on the Chamber board in recent years. He was also a committee member of Phillips County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited. An avid sportsman, Daryl enjoyed many activities outside of work including hunting, fishing, camping and hiking. He had a true appreciation of the great outdoors. He was a family man and enjoyed socializing with members of the community. He was an avid supporter and faithful follower of the Holyoke Dragons. Survivors include wife Rita of Holyoke; children Michael D. and Thomas A. Kropp of Holyoke, Fredrick L. and wife Pamela J. Kropp of Fort Collins, Vincent E. and wife Debra J. of Holyoke, Lenna L. Gregorio and husband Joseph M. of Monument, Patrick and wife Kendel of Limon, John F. Kropp of Cheyenne Wells, and Jennifer of the family home in Holyoke; fourteen grandchildren; sister Ardis and husband Robert Conklin of Holyoke; brother Allen and wife Dottie Kropp of Montrose; sister JoAnn Glittenberg of Tucson, Arizona; brother Jim and wife DeeAnn Kropp of Salida; sister Janice and husband Ben Temple of Lincoln, Nebraska. The Rosary service was scheduled for Wednesday, March 12, 1997 at 7 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Holyoke. The funeral mass was scheduled for 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 13 with celebrant Father Neal Pfister. Interment was to be in Holyoke Memorial Park. The family suggests contributions to the Daryl D. Kropp Memorial Fund [Parkinson's Foundation, Kropp Memorial Scholarship or St. Patrick's Catholic Church].
