HAVRE, March 23.—David Armstrong, 73, Havre pioneer, died at a local hospital Friday [Mar 23] afternoon, following an illness of some time. Funeral services will be held from the Holland & Bonine funeral home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Eagles lodge having charge of the services. Mr. Armstrong came to Havre in 1895, in the employ of the Great Northern railway, in the freight and passenger service. In 1910 he severed his connections with the road and took up a homestead. He later was employed at the Washington, McKinley and Lincoln schools in Havre. Mr. Armstrong is survived by his wife and five children, three boys, Donald, Kenneth and Louis, and two daughters, Dorothy Armstrong Wert of Ottawa, Canada and Gladys A. Tauges, Havre; and a brother-in-law, Peter Barrett, of Havre. Havre Daily News, Mar 1934 D.A. ARMSTRONG DIES FRIDAY AT HIS RANCH HOME Former Railroad Conductor Had Been In Poor Health For Many Years; Funeral To Be Held Sunday David A. Armstrong, - former Great Northern conductor; and for many years janitor at the Lincoln and McKinley schools, died Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at his ranch home south of Havre. Mr. Armstrong had been poor health for nine years, but had only been disabled since last fall. Death came from diabetes and dropsy. Funeral services are to be held at the Holland and Bonine funeral home Sunday afternoon, at 2:30 o'clock. The Havre Aerie of Eagles will officiate. David A. Armstrong was born in Quincy, Ill., about 78 years ago, living later in Canada. He came to Havre as a freight conductor from Canada in 1895. Later be was promoted and worked as a passenger conductor for several years, leaving the railroad service in 1910. For 22 years he was a janitor at the McKinley and Lincoln schools. For about 15 years be had made his home on his ranch south of Havre. In 1902 he married Miss Emma Goms, seven children being born to them. His wife and five children survive him as follows Donald, Kenneth and Louis Armstrong, of Havre: Mrs. Gladys Tautges, who lives south Havre; and Mrs. Dorothy Wert of Ottawa, Ontario.
