ELDER ANSWERS CALL Well Known Nickerson Resident Died This Morning [From Tuesday's Daily] David A. Elder, aged 86 years, a native of Pennsylvania, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Stewart at Nickerson this morning at 9:35 o'clock. Mr. Elder was taken ill with pneumonia Friday and his condition became alarming at once. Mr. Elder was born at Belfont, Pa., June 15, 1828. In 1856 he was married to Amelia J. Lins in 1852, removing to Iowa in 1856. He resided there until 1886 when he came to Nebraska and located at Fremont. Mrs. Elder died June 2, 1895, and since that time Mr. Elder has been making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Stewart at Nickerson. He was a man of strong Christian character and for 54 years was an active member of the Methodist church. He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. The close surviving relatives are two daughters, Mrs. Stewart of Nickerson and Mrs. J. C. Davis of Spirit Lake, Ia., and one son, Harry J. Elder, of Hudson, O. Funeral services will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart at Nickerson Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The body will be brought to Fremont for burial at Ridge cemetery. '''''''''''''''''' Fremont Tri-Weekly Tribune, April 14, 1914, p. 3, col. 5 NICKERSON Nickerson, April 13 – Funeral services for David Elder were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Stewart, Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Sisson of Fremont assisted by Rev. Downing of Nickerson conducted the services. There was quite a large crowd out from Nickerson and vicinity. Among those from out of town were Guy Stewart, Laurel, Neb.; W. Stewart, Fremont; Mrs. Laura Hawinks, Fremont; Mrs. Davis, Spirit Lake, Iowa; Mrs. Roy Stewart, Omaha. The bearers were six elderly men from Nickerson. Messrs. A. C. Crocker, J. W. Ward, L. Wickersham, L. M. Newman, E. A. Carpenter and J. M. Jones. Others who went to Fremont with the funeral cortege were, Mrs. J. W. Ward, Mrs. L. L. Karnes, Mrs. L. M. Newman, Mrs. F. Fenbrink, Mrs. Andrew Sinnamark and Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Negus.
