David was a son of Audrey (Crouse) Bailey, Middle LaHave, and the late Cedric Bailey. He is survived by his wife, Arlene (Wamback); son, Paul (Julia) Bailey, Hammonds Plains; brothers, Bruce (Lucy) Bailey, Dayspring; Charles (Barbara) Bailey, Hammonds Plains; sisters, Jacqueline (Lloyd) Burns, Lower Sackville; Marilyn (Douglas) Oickle, Auburndale; Diane (David) Leary, Middle LaHave; brother-in-law, Ron Fell, Middle LaHave, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by father, Cedric, and sister, Gretchen Fell. David was employed as a mobile service mechanic with the Department of Transportation for 35 years in Fairview, Sydney River and Hebbville. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends and neighbours. David attended and enjoyed the Unit Niobi Sea Cadets, Lunenburg. He also volunteered for years at the local cemeteries. David was a member of the Pleasantville Fire Department for 30 years, having attained rank of Lieutenant. David's love for travel took them across Canada, to many parts of the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Iceland and Europe, where they met many wonderful friends. David enjoyed sailing and looked forward to annual sailing vacations with his son, Paul; brothers-in-law, Brian and Larry Wamback, and friends. After retirement, David enjoyed the fellowship of his friends with the Senior Men's Curling League at the Bridgewater Curling Club. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy 3, Lunenburg, with visitation today from 7-9 p.m., and where there will be a celebration of his life on Sunday at 3 p.m., Rev. Doug Porter officiating. A private family burial will be held in the family plot in Creek Hill Cemetery, East LaHave. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Creek Hill Cemetery, Pleasantville Fire Department, St. John's United Church, Middle LaHave. Heartfelt thanks to friends and neighbours for the prayers, visits, cards, food, telephone calls and e-mails. Thanks for the special care received from Dr. O. Hayne, the nurses on the 8th floor, and the staff of the Day Unit of the VG Site, QEII. Thank you to Dr. T. Riding for being there and the nurses at the Chemo Unit in the SSRH. Thanks also to Rene and Lynn of the Energy Therapy Centre and the staff for the support and compassion. Thank you to the Continuing Care and VON nurses, and the Palliative Care PLS Home Care Teams for their support during this difficult time.
