Description	:	David Clair Petersen, 77, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Chelan, after a brief hospitalization. David was third generation of a longtime wheat farming family in Douglas County. He was born July 1, 1930, at the family home, no longer standing, near the head of McNeil Canyon. Read More	David Clair Petersen, 77, died Friday, May 23, 2008, at Chelan, after a brief hospitalization. David was third generation of a longtime wheat farming family in Douglas County. He was born July 1, 1930, at the family home, no longer standing, near the head of McNeil Canyon. He began his education in the one room schoolhouse at Mud Springs and went on to graduate from Mansfield High School in 1948. David lived and worked on the family farm, west of Mansfield, until his retirement in 1993. After retirement, he kept himself quite busy creating pressed flower art and selling it at fairs around the country. He particularly enjoyed participating in Leavenworth's summer "Art in the Park," and meeting the many and diverse people there. He moved to a home on the south shore of Lake Chelan in the mid-1990's. David was a member of Masonic Lodge 215 of Mansfield and was active with the Washington State Wheat Grower's Association in his younger years. David was married to Shirley Kaye Gallaher at Mansfield in 1951. That marriage ended in divorce in 1971. David has five daughters and seven grandchildren: Suzanne Petersen and sons, Gus and Sage Miller of Seattle; Leslie Petersen and husband, Wayne Myers of Seattle; Mona Hartman and husband, Wes and children, Allie and Jacob of Jacksonville, OR; Karen Kneadler, husband, Bill and daughter, Sarah of Orondo and Nagoya, Japan and Noreen Reis and children, Vernon and Violet of Mukilteo, WA. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Jake the Dachshund. David married Phontel Blackwell of Chelan in 1978. She preceded him in death in 1994. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Tom and Clair (Beard) Petersen; one brother, Duane; four half siblings, Myrtle Yonko, Louise Berg, Jim Petersen and India. Funeral Services will be Thursday, May 29, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the United Protestant Church in Mansfield. Graveside Service immediately following. Please join the family for dinner at the Grange Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mansfield Museum Fund, P.O. Box 274, Mansfield, WA 98830.
