Description	:	David Colburn Van Briesen was born on December 31, 1938 in Little Rock, IA to Fred and Mary (Kruse) Van Briesen. At age five, David moved to a farm near Brookings, SD. He received his elementary education at Trail School in rural Brookings County. He attended Aggie School at South Dakota State College where he learned agricultural and various trades. Read More	David Colburn Van Briesen was born on December 31, 1938 in Little Rock, IA to Fred and Mary (Kruse) Van Briesen. At age five, David moved to a farm near Brookings, SD. He received his elementary education at Trail School in rural Brookings County. He attended Aggie School at South Dakota State College where he learned agricultural and various trades. A few years later, he learned the heating and plumbing trade while working at Hoffman Furniture Store in Aurora, SD. After meeting on a blind date a year earlier, David was united in marriage with Theresa Nelson on June 24, 1961 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. In 1962, the couple moved to Fort Pierre where David worked in plumbing and heating returning to Aurora in early 1964 where David opened and operated Dave’s Plumbing, Heating and Excavating. In 1967 the family moved to the family farm near Brookings where David worked the 160 acres growing grain, raising Suffolk sheep and chickens while still operating his business. In 1985, David retired from actively farming and his business and began working at John Morrell and Company in Sioux Falls. The family made their home in Sioux Falls in 1989 while David continued to work at John Morrell until retiring again in 1993. In the summer of 2003, David and Theresa moved to Harrisburg, SD where they resided until selling their home in 2017. They took up full-time traveling adventures in their fifth wheel RV spending time in Coolidge, AZ, Black Hills of South Dakota, and visiting several National Parks and campgrounds. David enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bowling and working hard, (always having multiple projects going on.) He loved his Catholic faith and always made this a priority, attending Mass where his travels led him. He also volunteered for many years at Habitat for Humanity. Above all, David loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband of 58-years, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who will be dearly missed.
