Mr. Crotty had been suffering with rheumatism for many years and when complications set in, he gradually declined and the end came at 4:30 o'clock Sunday morning. Mr. Crotty was an admirable citizen. Quiet, unassuming and possessing sound judgment, he held the respect and good will of everyone who knew him. As one of the pioneer farmers of this vicinity, he was of the stock and character which makes up the back-bone and sturdiness of the nation. His wife and relatives are joined by many friends and acquaintances in sincerely mourning his departure from this earth. David, the son of Jeremiah and Ellen Crotty, was born in Garryowen, August 15th, 1860. He always followed the occupation of farming and on the 18th day of April, 1888, married Johanna McCarthy, at St. Patrick's church, Garryowen, by the Rev. Father Kelly. The couple retired from the farm in 1919 and moved to Dubuque where they lived for more than a year before coming to Cascade in October, 1920, and where they have resided ever since. The deceased is survived by his sorrowing wife, one sister, Mrs. Mary O'Mara, of Dubuque, and one brother, Patrick Crotty, also of Dubuque. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at St. Martin's church at 9:30 o'clock with Rev. Thos. Rooney officiating at the moss of requiem. Interment was made in St. Patrick's cemetery, Garryowen, with Rev. P. F. Malone officiating at the graveside. Casket bearers were: Honorary—Henry Moran, Jos. Schwind, Eugene Sheckel, Robt. Keane, Jas. Reddin and James Curtis; Active—Daniel Noonan, Jr., P. J. O'Connell, M. J. Kenneally, John Lynch, Patrick Crotty, Patrick O'Connell, John Kedley and Michael Curtis.
