Description	:	Pastor David E. Johnson, 71, a resident of East Wenatchee and former resident of Leavenworth, died Saturday, May 17, 2008, at Central Washington Hospital. He was born on December 16, 1936, at Marshall, MI to Glenn and Ellen (Carlson) Johnson. David graduated from Wichita High School East in 1954. He was born on December 16, 1936, at Marshall, MI to Glenn and Ellen (Carlson) Johnson. David graduated from Wichita High School East in 1954. After graduation, he moved to the Seattle area, where he spent two years at N.W. Bible College. In 1959, he married Mary Jo Harden at Raymond, WA. The couple then went into the Evangelistic field. David served as Assistant Pastor at the Renton Gospel Church. He later pastored in Waldron, KS and then was Assistant Pastor in Monroe, WA. In 1974, he became Pastor of the Leavenworth Assembly of God/Spirit Life Center Church in Leavenworth, where he established the World Outreach Ministerial Association. David operated a concrete business during the weekdays in Monroe. In 1979, they moved to Leavenworth full time, and in 1983, they moved to Lake Wenatchee. Mary Jo died in 1985. On September 27, 1987, he married Priscilla Hansen in Leavenworth; they enjoyed many years of ministry together. In 1998, he resigned from the Spirit Life Center Church and later moved to East Wenatchee, where he established the Open Door Fellowship Ministerial Association and started the Open Door Church. He had several passions in his life. Weight lifting being one in which he had a world record in the bench press of 407 pounds at 64 years of age. David loved working on cars and the 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT, which he modified, won a 1st place in the 2006 and 2007 Classy Chassis Car Shows. His greatest passion was ministering the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. God was the center of conversation in the home and everywhere he went. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla, of the family home; daughter and son-in-law, Rachel and Darin Deskins and grandchildren, Ricky, Madison and Braelyn of Raymond; sons and daughters-in-law, David E. Johnson, Jr. and Rhonda and grandchildren, Jacob, Alexa, Caitlyn, Emily, Savannah and Joshua of South Bend, WA; Jonathan and Kim Johnson and grandchildren, Ashley and Jesse of Wenatchee; brothers, Glenn Johnson, Jr. of Hawaii and Dan Johnson of Wenatchee; two sisters, Carolyn Welch of Auburn and Dorothy Schumaker of Webster, N.Y. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jo; his parents; and three sisters, Eunice Lawrence, Hazel Johnson and Ellen Johnson. A Funeral Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Pastor David E. Johnson will be conducted at 1:00 o'clock Thursday afternoon, May 22, 2008, in the Spirit Life Center at 210 Benton Street in Leavenworth with Pastor Scott Langager, Pastor Jerry Beebe and Pastor Porfirio Barahona officiating. Those wishing to make Visitation, may call at the Ward's Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, between Noon and 7:00 p.m. The Service will conclude in the Church, with Private Family Interment in the Mt. View Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Pastor David E. Johnson Memorial Fund at any branch of Cashmere Valley Bank. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
