Description	:	David Edward Ponn, age 49, of Luray, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2012. He was born on April 15, 1963, in Luray, son of Thomas Ponn and Fleta Sanders. David graduated from Luray High School in 1981. He went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Eastern Mennonite University and an M.Ed. in Administration from Shenandoah University. He began working in the Page County School System in 1986 as a bus aide for PCHS, then became a teacher at LHS. David coached girls basketball for Luray High School for several years. He then... Read More	David Edward Ponn, age 49, of Luray, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 24, 2012. He was born on April 15, 1963, in Luray, son of Thomas Ponn and Fleta Sanders. David graduated from Luray High School in 1981. He went on to earn a B.S. in Education from Eastern Mennonite University and an M.Ed. in Administration from Shenandoah University. He began working in the Page County School System in 1986 as a bus aide for PCHS, then became a teacher at LHS. David coached girls basketball for Luray High School for several years. He then went on to serve as athletic director, assistant principal and principal of Luray High School. He was actively involved with the athletic department at LHS. He was a mentor to both students and faculty and was never too busy to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and saw great importance and value in both. He was well known for his "words of wisdom" and sense of humor. His advice to all was "live life." He is survived by his wife, Marie G. Ponn, whom he married on June 15, 1991; his father, Thomas Ponn and wife Maxine of Stanley; his mother, Fleta Sanders and the late Lavon "Bunk" Sanders of Luray; His sister, Sandy Burner and husband John of Stanley; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Lynn Tharpe and husband Timothy of Luray, and Dawn Marie Knight of Shenandoah; Two nephews, Matthew Hinegardner and wife Sheena of Harrisonburg, Daniel Hinegardner and wife Monica of Luray; two grandchildren, Carlie Marie Tharpe and Amber Lynn Tharpe; one great nephew, Grayson Scott Hinegardner; one great niece, Brylee Fayth Hinegardner; and multiple aunts, uncles and cousins. Per his request, a private memorial service was held Sunday, August 26, 2012, in Luray. Memorial contributions may be made to the David E. Ponn Scholarship Fund, Luray High School, c/o Cindy Miller, 243 Bulldog Drive, Luray, Va. 22835. (Paid Obituary)
