He is a prominent member of the Union Labor party and has been chairman of the central committee for a number of years. In November 1891, he was the unanimous choice of his party for the office of representative. He is Noble Grand of the I.O.O.F. No. 396, of Audubon. We take pleasure in recommending him as a good workman and an excellent man." Audubon Journal Clipping, hand-written date 10-31-1907: "DAVID OVERFIELD" "One Of The Old Pioneers Of Audubon County Died At The Booten Hotel" [s/b Booton] "David Elza Overfield, son of John E. and Mary Margaret Overfield was born at Centerville of a family of 4 children one of which, Sarah E. Angevine who died at Audubon last February proceeded him to the Heavenly home. He leaves a brother and sister, who live in Kansas, to mourn his loss. He was a great sufferer the last years of his life and seemed conscious that his time on earth was nearly spent. He was a member of the Christian Union Church for a number of years. The last few weeks of his life he spent continuously in prayer. He died at the home of his niece, Mrs. C.D. Booton at Audubon, Oct. 21, 1907, aged 71 years and 20 days." "The funeral services were held at the Mt. Zion Evangelical Church and were conducted by the Pastor O.M. Yaggy. The body was then laid to rest in the Viola Center Cemetery." [Pastor O.M.
