Eicher Dies in St. Louis Was Horticulturist for Frisco Railway Springdale, June 2 --- D. E. Eicher, 72, horticulturist for the past 25 years for the Frisco railway and former state representative from Washington county, died in Frisco Hospital, St. Louis today at 1 a.m. Mr. Eicher was a well known farmer and businessman besides his duties with the railway. Survivors besides the widow are a daughter, Mrs. Rachel Riggs, Springdale; a son, Herbert, Springdale; three brothers; one sister, and four grandchildren. Mr. Eicher became ill May 23 and was taken to Springfield Frisco hospital May 25, and then to St. Louis May 30. He underwent a major operation yesterday. Mr. Eicher came to Springdale from Iowa nearly 40 years ago. Funeral arrangements in charge of Collision-Riggs are incomplete. Northwest Arkansas Times - 2 Jun 1943, Wed, p. 1 ****************** D. E. Eicher Buried at Springdale Friday Springdale, June 5 -- Rev. H. C. Hankins, assisted by Rev. Sam Watson, conducted the funeral service of D. E. Eicher at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock. A quartette composed of Mrs. V. Price, Mrs. Florence Brooks, Scott Price and P. W. Boone sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" , a song written by J. S. Ferris, who was a personal friend of Mr. Eicher and with whom he had sung this song when it was first composed. Pallbearers were Roger Sanders, Raymond Patterson, L. M. Heerwagen, A. E. Allen, Walter Watkins and Lawrence Riggs. Business and Professional Women's Club, Country Club and Booklovers club attended in a body. Relatives who were here for the service were a brother, N. J. Eicher, Winfield, Iowa, a nephew and his wife, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Allebach, Albany, MO, and a niece, Lydia Eicher, Chicago. Burial was in Bluff cemetery in charge of Collision-RIggs funeral home. Mr. Eicher's other survivors besides his wife, son Herbert and daughter, Mrs. Glenn M. Riggs, include two other brothers, John of Des Moines, and Judge Edward C. Eicher, chief justice of the Supreme court of the District of Columbia; and one sister Mrs. Lina Schwartzendruver of Bloomfield, Iowa.
