It is puzzling to me how a headstone could be off by that many months, especially since his grandfather was founder of the Kidwell Funeral Home which was still run by the Kidwell family in 1906, the year of Frank's death. ... My concern is that genealogists may begin using the January 21st date instead of the correct birth-date of December 21, 1888. At this time, most use the December 21, 1888 date. A death certificate would make things easier, but is not available. The 1900 census is probably the best source, with obituaries next. Thanks. OBITUARY: Versailles Leader, 15 Mar 1906 Death of Frank Kidwell David Francis Kidwell, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Kidwell died at the family residence in this city last Monday morning at 11:45 o'clock, after an illness of eleven days from pneumonia. Deceased was born in Versailles December 21, 1888, and lived with his parents during their residence in Bates county and Versailles all the years of his life. When taken ill he was profitably engaged in the restaurant business with his brother Claude, and being a young man of correct habits and kindly disposition was well respected and highly esteemed by all who knew him. He believed in the redeemer of mankind and passed to the great beyond prepared to meet his God. Funeral service were held at the M. E. Church, South, at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. E. K. Wolfe in presence of many friends and relatives of deceased.(sic)After which the interment took place in the city cemetery. The leader extends profound sympathy to the bereaved family in the loss of their beloved son and brother. (J Haldiman files)
