Allen a California pioneer and a resident of this city since 1867, died at his home, corner Sixth and Wall streets at 10 o'clock this morning after an illness that has rendered him an invalid for many years. He was 73 years of age. Deceased was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, in 1841 and came to California with his parents in 1859. He was a veteran of the Civil War being a member of company I, Second regiment of California cavalry. Deceased met with an accident in 1885 which rendered him a cripple, and he has suffered from paralysis for a number of years. Mr. Allen was married in 1878 to Miss Rowena Ford, a native of Plumas county. He is survived by two children, Archie Allen of Chico and Mrs. J.R. Terrell of Sacramento, two brothers, John and Albert Allen of Chico, a sister, Mrs. M. Spencer of Grants Pass, Ore., and a niece, Dr. Nellie Allen of this city, and numerous other relatives. The funeral will be held at 2:309 Tuesday afternoon from the parlors of Mrs. M.E. Engle and will be conducted by the G.A.R. of which deceased was a member. Colonel Lon Bond, at the request of Mr. Allen will officiate. Interment will be made in the local cemetery. ~~~ Chico Enterprise, Tuesday Evening, November 24, 1914, pg 1, col 3: David H. Allen Is Laid at Rest. The funeral of David H. Allen, pioneer resident of this city, who died at his residence at Sixth and Wall streets last Saturday morning, was held from the parlors of Mrs. M.E. Engle at 2:30 this afternoon. Colonel Lon Bond of the Second regiment, N.G.C., officiated at the funeral, which was held under the auspices of Halleck Post, G.A.R., of which deceased was an honored member. The services were largely attended by veterans of the Civil War and the Ladies of the Relief Corps.
