Read More	David Hamilton Strachan July 24, 1940 - December 4, 2014 Short Gap-David Hamilton Strachan, Sr., 74, of Short Gap passed away Thursday, December 4, 2014 at the Western Maryland Health System. Born in Alma, WV, on July 24, 1940, he was the son of late Herman and Elma (Hamilton) Strachan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Heather Strachan. David was a graduate of Ft. Hill High School, class of 1958. He entered the Army in 1962 and served for eight years, during which he earned the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, Dave was employed as Assistant Manger of Safeway Market in LaVale Plaza. Dave and his wife Sheryl purchased the Memory Shop in LaVale Plaza in 1970, and they operated the business for forty-four years. A member of Calvary Baptist Church for over fifty years, Dave was a church usher, and in his early career, he was an active member of the AWANA club. He was also a member of the Cumberland Pigeon Club. Recently, Dave had attended his monthly high school reunion luncheons. Dave is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Sheryl (Hostetler) Strachan; three sons, David H. Strachan, Jr and wife Tina, St. John, FL, Gary A. Strachan and wife Debra, Short Gap, and Timothy S. Strachan and wife Carmeliza, Short Gap; nine grandchildren, David Josh Strachan, Sarah Strachan, Zachary Strachan, Kimberly Liller and husband Micah, Mindy Mitchel, Jordan Strachan, Katlyn Strachan, Noah Strachan, and Nathan Strachan; two great grandchildren, Jaci Abe and husband Chris and Ava Marie Mitchel, and another great-granddaughter expected in April who will be named Gabriella; one great-great-granddaughter, Amberly Tia Abe; four sisters, Shirley Young and husband Robert, Glen Burnie, Mary Lohr and husband John, Cumberland, Sharon Wilson, Keyser, WV, April Cauthers and husband Mark, California; two brothers, George Strachan and Dorothy, Millersville, and Alfred Strachan and wife Linda, Arizona. Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A ., 15205 McMullen Hwy SW, Cresaptown, on Sunday from 2-6 pm. A Funeral Service will be conducted Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church at 11 am with Reverend Bruce McBride officiating. Friends will be received at the church one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Matt Reeder; Marc Peltier; Gene Reinhart; and grandsons Jordan, David Josh, Noah, and Nathan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest those wishing to honor David's memory make contributions to the Calvary Baptist Church or the Calvary Christian Academy, P.O. Box 5154, Cresaptown, MD 21505.
