Description	:	Co. C, 23rd IA. Inf Daily Chronicle 28 June 1904 David Huggins, one of Abilene's oldest residents, died at his home on Eight street about 1 o'clock this afternoon. He has been in failing health for a couple of months. The deceased was 83 years of age and leaves a wife and two children, a son and a daughter to mourn his loss. Inf Daily Chronicle 28 June 1904 David Huggins, one of Abilene's oldest residents, died at his home on Eight street about 1 o'clock this afternoon. He has been in failing health for a couple of months. The deceased was 83 years of age and leaves a wife and two children, a son and a daughter to mourn his loss. He was born in Ohio where he lived until he moved to Dickinson county in 1870. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he enlisted in Co. C 23rd Iowa and served for three years. For his courage and bravery, he was promoted to the position of Corporal. During his long residence in Abilene he has become well known to the entire community. His upright, honest character and amiable disposition have endeared him to a wide circle of friends who will sympathize with the sorrowing family. The funeral will be held from the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Wednesday. Abilene Post GAR, of which Mr. Huggins was a prominent member, will have charge of the funeral. C, 23rd Iowa Inf; moved to Missouri, 1867; moved to Dickinson co, 1871 died 27 June 1904 in Abilene.
