He was born February 22, 1943, in Ottumwa to Kenneth and Dorothy Roberts Copeland. He married Mary Kay Beck on October 30, 1963. A 1961 graduate of Ottumwa High School, David had attended Iowa State University. He worked for Home Oil and then worked for 27 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1999. Fourth St., died at 2:33 p.m. January 11, 2016, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center. He was born February 22, 1943, in Ottumwa to Kenneth and Dorothy Roberts Copeland. He married Mary Kay Beck on October 30, 1963. A 1961 graduate of Ottumwa High School, David had attended Iowa State University. He worked for Home Oil and then worked for 27 years at John Deere Ottumwa Works, retiring in 1999. He was a member of Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F. & A.M., UAW Local #74, and Ottumwa Amateur Ham Radio Club. David was a ham radio operator, a fiddle maker and played the guitar and fiddle. Surviving are his wife, Mary Kay; three daughters, Bertie (Larry) Wheaton and Cathy Copeland, both of Ottumwa, Mary (Johnny) Ulin of Milo; a son, Lee Copeland of Ottumwa; eight grandchildren, Melia (Todd) Holman, Colt (Robin) Pingilley, Lou (Jena) Black, Larry (Tamara) Wheaton Jr., Kryssiah (Jordan) Felton, Lance Ulin, Luke Ulin and Audrey Copeland; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Bruce Copeland of Ottumwa and a sister, Sharon (Bob) Parks of Ottumwa. He was preceded in death by a son, Lorenzo Copeland. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Kevin Palmer officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Visitation begins at 1 p.m. Wednesday with family present from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the family.
