Description	:	David J. Marsh, son of Joe and Florence “Flossie” Marsh was born October 25, 1928, on his family's farmstead. He grew up and graduated from the one-room school house still standing on the farmstead, having taken the 8th grade equivalency test in the 7th grade. During his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and strumming on the guitar. He often made up songs depending on who was in the room. Marsh, son of Joe and Florence “Flossie” Marsh was born October 25, 1928, on his family's farmstead. He grew up and graduated from the one-room school house still standing on the farmstead, having taken the 8th grade equivalency test in the 7th grade. During his younger years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and strumming on the guitar. He often made up songs depending on who was in the room. Ever the entertainer, he didn't care if the lyrics made sense as long as it made the kids laugh. He served in the Korean War as a cook and prided himself on being able to whip up a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies himself if he wanted; of course, he would usually leave the baking for someone else, and may or may not have added the sugar. He met Florence Bakken, his sweetheart and wife of 59 years at the Blue Moon, having been introduced by his sister Edith Wilson. They were married in 1960 at the Froid Catholic Church. Following their marriage, they rented a small house for a short time before moving to the farm with Flossie and Joe. Eventually, they invested in a small school house and turned it into their home where they raised a family of 10: 5 boys and 5 girls. Dave was a ready storyteller and the master of a good yarn. All who came to visit could be assured of a good hunting or fishing story. If the story wasn't good, it was at least lengthy. Florence and Dave’s table was always open for a neighbor, a traveler passing through, a friend, or family; it mattered not who. The coffee pot was always on even if it wasn't turned on until you arrived. Anyone who knew Dave had a hard time not liking him. He was great at reading his herd and his land; he knew sometimes within hours when a cow was going to calve and often knew someone had hit the ditch just by the tracks that were made. Dave didn't travel a lot, but he could be convinced to go to a family reunion or two, especially if there was fishing too. He had many hobbies throughout the years including all things guns-related, hunting, rock tumbling, wood-working, and occasional rudimentary drawing. Dave delighted in his grandkids and would always ask how they were doing, assigning them nicknames like “spark plug” for his grandson and commenting, "those girls are the best girls" in reference to his granddaughters; he didn’t miss a quick visit to his youngest granddaughters before leaving for home after any trip to town to give them a hug and simply say, “I love you, my girls.” Dave loved animals and would share everything from baby mice to cottontails, chicks, geese, ducks, guinea hens, calves, colts, puppies, hawk nests, swallow nests, piglets, and kittens with his children. If it was found in nature, dad would share what he knew of it with anyone who showed the least bit of interest. He loved the family farm and spent his life devoted to it and his family. Dave is preceded in death by: his parents, Joe and Florence “Flossie” Marsh; his brothers and sisters and their families including: Robert “Bob” Marsh, Kermit Marsh, Valentine Marsh, Gilbert (Margaret) Marsh, Steven (Betty) Marsh, Celestia Marsh, Iling (Pete) Goltz, Mae (Ed) Hark, and Louella (Don) Blair; and also by his brothers-in-law Darrell LaCoste and Duane Wilson. Dave is survived by his wife, Florence Marsh, and their children and their families: Cecil Marsh, Denise and Martin Carlson, Kermit Marsh, Brian Marsh, Ann and Jim Brenner, Darrin and Susy Marsh, Janice Fanning, Anita and Jason Cuddy, Monica Marsh, and Mitchell Marsh; grandchildren Dulcy Onstad, Holly (Glenn) Jacobsen, Maggie Onstad, Dustin Fanning, Kathryne Marsh, Jennifer Marsh, and Sofia Marsh; great-grandchildren Dominic Crow, Abbie Jacobsen, and Finley Demple; sisters Cecelia (Darrell) LaCoste and Edith (Duane) Wilson; sister-in-law Beverly Marsh; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
