Rebecca CURSMAN was born 6 JUL 1790 in , , Maryland, and died 6 FEB 1848 in Kempton, Tipton, Indiana. She was buried in Kempton, Tipton, Indiana. With his parents Gilbert and Rebecca Kemp, David Kemp migrated to this territory from Frederick County, MD, in 1841. Rebecca CURSMAN was born 6 JUL 1790 in , , Maryland, and died 6 FEB 1848 in Kempton, Tipton, Indiana. She was buried in Kempton, Tipton, Indiana. With his parents Gilbert and Rebecca Kemp, David Kemp migrated to this territory from Frederick County, MD, in 1841. In 1843, David married Mary Price and in 1848 he purchased 1200 acres of land from the government. Kempton Cemetery, three-quarters of a mile north of Kempton, previously was owned by John Star. Rebecca Kemp, mother of David was the first to be buried on this land Feb 6, 1848, Star sold the ground to Ruben Boyer Aug 6, 1850. In April 1852, Boyer sold one quarter acre section to Kavid Kemp for use as a public burial grounds. The lot was eight rods long and five rods wide. Boyer deeded the land that is now part of the south addition of the cemetery to David Goodnight in 1854, and on Mar 17, 1876, Goodnight deeded that same land, with the exception of the cemetery and the church that had been built in 1873, to George and Margeret Ann Stephenson, specifying that if the church was disbanded the land goes to the Stephensons. At this time, the church and cemetery were called The Pleasant Grove Episcopal Church and Cemetery. The church was torn down in 1890 and on June 6, 1893, the lot was opened to the public. Each plot sold for $25. In 1921, the Kempton Cemetery was incorporated and the town board bought the Stephenson plot as well as another two acre plot adjoining the cemetery. In 1972, the Cemetery Association acquired an additional acre and a half along the south side of the cemetery from John Wyrick.
