After Amelia's death, David married Nancy Connelly, on September 4, 1850, in Wapello County. Harriet's maiden name was Criswell, and she had been married to Garrett Walling, who she married on December 24, 1858. David and Harriet had three children, Ella, James, and William. David married L.C. Royce on December 29, 1880, in Wapello County, and he married Sarah Wertz on July 15, 1886, in Wapello County. -------------------------------------------- Obituary From "Ottumwa Courier," November 3, 1907: Deaths LANNING–Friday, November 1, 1907 at 3 o'clock p.m., aged 81 years, David Lanning an old citizen of Agency. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. D. Lanning; four sons, D.C. Lanning of Burlington, Kan.; Hugh, James and W.R. Lanning of this city; Daughters, Mrs. Joseph Fry of this city; Mrs. Ella Madsen, Creighten, Neb.; Mrs. Columbia Hatcher, Lamoni; also three brothers, Jonathan of Hildeth, Neb.; E. Steven, of Eaton, Cal.; Nathaniel, of Upland, Neb.; and one sister Mrs. Rachel Hatcher, Beloit, Kan. The funeral service will be held from the First Christian church Sunday morning at 11 o'clock, conducted by Rev. C.L. Walker, of Brighton, assister by Rev. L.H. Otto, of this city. The cortege will leave the residence at 304 North Walnut avenue at 10:30 o'clock. Interment in Ottumwa cemetery.
