David was born December 6, 1954, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Kohagen) Walther and was raised on the family farm in rural Denver. David was born December 6, 1954, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Lawrence and Margaret (Kohagen) Walther and was raised on the family farm in rural Denver. He graduated from Denver High School in 1973 and then attended Hawkeye Tech where he attained a welding certificate. On July 10, 1982, he was united in marriage to Robin Wedemeier at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Readlyn. To this union three children were born. David worked on the family farm his entire life. He raised dairy cows until 2001 and remained active with the farming operation up until the time of his death. He was most recently employed with Wiley Construction in Readlyn. David was a lifelong member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Denver. His greatest passion was the time he spent farming. He was most content when he was hard at work, deer hunting, or working on a project outside. David had fun with people-he was the jokester always trying to make people laugh. He was always up for a conversation with family, friends or a neighbor. Schafskopf with his small group of friends was always a highlight. A true history buff, he was especially interested in WWII era details. David is survived by his wife, Robin, two sons; Erik (Jodi) Walther of Cedar Falls, and Austin Walther of Cedar Falls, one daughter; Lacey Walther of Cedar Falls, one granddaughter on the way in November, a sister; Sandra Walther of Waverly, several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, nephew Tim Cochran, two sisters; Donna Walther and Judy Cochran. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 14, 2012, at St Paul's United Church of Christ with burial in the Fairview Cemetery, both in Denver. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Funeral Home in Denver and an hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be directed to family.
