Description	:	SP4 UNITED STATES ARMY David was born , at a hospital in LeMars, Iowa, the oldest of 8 children born to Harry and Helen Plendl. He grew up on a farm 1mile north & 4 miles west of Kingsley, IA. went through 8’h grade in a 1-room school, Elkhorn No. 5. He had the same teacher all 9 grades and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1953. David came to Omaha in the fall of 1953 and went to Commercial Extension where I took accounting. In March,1954. He had the same teacher all 9 grades and graduated from Kingsley High School in 1953. David came to Omaha in the fall of 1953 and went to Commercial Extension where I took accounting. In March,1954. He went to work for Standard Oil, which is BP now, at a tank farm in Council Bluffs, IA. and worked there until January 1958, when he went to work for Paul Gilligan at the Standard Oil bulk plant in Irvington, NE. David was drafted into the US Army in August 1958 and went to Ft Carson, CO, for basic training then Ft Gordon, GA for signal school. From there, on a ship across the Atlantic where he spent 16 months in Verdon, France, the dirtiest city in the world, but he loved Barcelona, Spain. He also went to France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium. There he saw his Uncle Billy Bradley’s grave where he was killed in World War II. His body was brought home and he is buried in LeMars, IA. David flew home in July 1960, in a prop plane and stopped at Prestwick, Scotland, and Gander, Newfoundland, saw a lot of countries he never would have. He got out of the service in July 1960 and went back working for Paul Gilligan running the Standard Oil bulk plant at Irvington until he retired and closed it in 1976.He then worked at Vaughn Oil Company until 1981 when he started at Anderson Fire Equipment in the shop and worked there until 1992, when they sold it to Firemaster. David started with General Fire Equipment and stayed there until retirement on January 1,2016 at 80 years old. Additionally, He was a volunteer fireman with Irvington Fire Department from 1962-1978 and was the treasurer for 13 years. On October 12,1961, David married Margaret Hazelton. Margaret died in 1989 at age 52. Then he married MaryAnn Bugay on December 28, 1995. MaryAnn died November 14, 2013.
