Description	:	GREENVILLE - David Lewis McGowan, 79, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 PM in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jeff Manning. Mr. McGowan, a Pitt County native, was son of the late Ollen Washington and Leida Gray McGowan and lived his early life in the McGowan Crossroads community of Pitt County. Read More	GREENVILLE - David Lewis McGowan, 79, died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. A graveside funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 PM in the mausoleum at Pinewood Memorial Park, officiated by Rev. Jeff Manning. Mr. McGowan, a Pitt County native, was son of the late Ollen Washington and Leida Gray McGowan and lived his early life in the McGowan Crossroads community of Pitt County. He lived in Greenville for many years where he was employed by the North Carolina Department of Transportation. He retired from the DOT as Division Traffic Supervisor in 1989 after 33 years of service. He later began working with Pitt County, retiring as the Road Sign Coordinator for Pitt County in 2001. Mr. McGowan was a charter member of Unity Free Will Baptist Church, where he had served as a Deacon. For a number of years he sang in the Unity Trio. He loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his harvest. He also enjoyed riding his great grandson, Colin, on the golf cart and watching cooking channels on TV. In addition to his parents Mr. McGowan was preceded in death by a sister, Jane Brown. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rebecca Becky Reel McGowan; son, Randy McGowan and wife, Lori, of Pawleys Island, SC; grandsons, Taylor McGowan and wife, Blythe of Greenville and Cody McGowan of Columbia, SC; great grandson, Colin McGowan; a brother, Carlyle McGowan and wife, Llewellyn; and a special cousin, Mary Ida Butts and husband, David; along with a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 5-7 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at his home.
