Reed was born June 23, 1840 in Clark Co. Indiana, and departed this life Aug. 3, 1906, at the age of 66 years, 1 month and 12 days. He moved with his parents to Wapello Co., Competine tp. in 1851, was married to Emma Overturf Sept. 5, 1865, to this union was born one son, Orin. Mr. Reed enlisted in the war, company D, 13th Iowa infantry, Dec. 1, 1863, was honorably discharged July 21, 1865, having spent the greater part of his life in Iowa, has been a resident of Davis county Iowa, the past twelve years, a resident of Bloomfield for one year. He has been a constant sufferer for four years, he bore his sufferings with christian faith, only waiting for a call to enter the golden gate where suffering is no more. Mr. Reed was a member of the Baptist church at Hedrick, a member of the G.A.R. post at Hedrick, was also a member of the Odd Fellows' lodge at Bloomfield. Funeral services were conducted at his home in Bloomfield, Sunday, August 5th at 2:30 p.m. Rev. W. H. Slack of Floris conducted the services. He was interred in the I.O.O.F. cemetery where the remains were taken in charge of the I.O.O.F. brothers and the last sad rites were paid to the remains.
