David McCarty was born February 22, 1815, and died of Epilepsy at his residence near Lamertine, Ohio, April 21, 1887, aged 72 years, 1 month, and 29 days. He came to this country at an early date and in 1839 he married Elzabeth Shambaugh and settled near Perrysville, Ohio, where he remained until his death. His family consisted of nine children; three of them preceded him to the promised land and were there to greet their father on "the other shore" six of them, together with their bereaved mother, are living. One by one, they too, will hear death's summons, and if they but emulate the life of the kind husband and loving father, may become a reunited family in that home where sickness, sorrow, pain and death are not known. David McCarty was converted and joined the M. E. Church over 50 years ago and has ever remained a consistent member thereof. An honest man, a kind husband, a loving father, and a true Christian. As a citizen he will be missed for honesty in his dealings, courtesy in his conduct, and an upright walk in life gained for him true friends wherever he was known and those who best knew him most regret and realize the loss sustained in his death. He will be missed at the family circle for there will be a vacant chair at the fireside which no one can fill; his family will miss his advice, his admonitions, and his words of cheer. there will be a vacant pew in the church and sadly they'll miss him, for he was ever at the post of duty, always ready and willing to work for the advancement of the church, an unostentatious, living Christian. We laid him away in the cemetery at Perrysville to await the resurrection of the just. May we meet him again.
