Description	:	David McDowell was the son of James McDowell from North Carolina and Rachel McGee from Missouri. Circa 1835, David's parents moved to Dubuque County, Iowa, where David was born. David's father died in c1853, in 1855 his mother remarried in Dubuque County, after which the family moved to Clayton County. In 1870, David married Ella Dora Welden in Clayton County, Iowa. Mr. McDowell came to Iowa Falls in an early day and has been identified with the city's development in many ways. He served the city in various official capacities, and with a faithfulness that was commendable. Mr. McDowell has been in poor health for several years and never fully recovered from a stroke of paralysis while dwelling at the home of his daughter in Hampton a year or more ago. His wife died a number of years ago and a daughter, Mrs. W. J. Tebay died several months ago. He is survived by two sons, Dr C E McDowell of Armstrong, and Mr. H S McDowell of Hansell, Iowa. Aaron McDowell is a brother. The McDowell brothers lived for many years in the northeastern part of the state in Clayton and Allamakee counties. Mr. McDowell was about seventy-five years old. The funeral will be held this afternoon at the Baptist church."
