Description	:	David Melton belonged to one of several Melton familys who emigrated from Virginia to North Carolina to Harrison County, Indiana in the early 19th century. David, the son of Eli and Sarah Barnett Melton, was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The family is found there on the 1790 Census. By the time the 1800 Census was taken, the family had moved to Washington County, Kentucky. By 1809, the family had moved again, to Exeter Township, Harrison County, Indiana Territory, where David's father, Eli, was named on a list of electors of the election. David, the son of Eli and Sarah Barnett Melton, was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina. The family is found there on the 1790 Census. By the time the 1800 Census was taken, the family had moved to Washington County, Kentucky. By 1809, the family had moved again, to Exeter Township, Harrison County, Indiana Territory, where David's father, Eli, was named on a list of electors of the election. In 1809, David, now 22 years old, was employed working for George Pfrimmer. In time, he fell in love with Pfrimmer's daughter, and on 4 November 1810, he and Catherine Pfrimmer were married in Harrison County, Indiana. In the words of David's son, George, "David Melton, after arriving at the years of discretion and manhood, came to Indiana, and subsequently received into his home the aged grandparents, Eli and Sarah Melton. After making their home with him a few years, they died there." * In 1834 David and Catherine sold their land in Harrison County, and in 1835 David moved with his wife and children to Knox County, Illinois and became a large landowner in Rio Township. The will of David Melton, written July 25, 1859, was probated Sept. 12, 1859 in Knox County and listed his wife and 13 other heirs, his children.
