Marchant, who died at Marshalltown last Wednesday, was held on Saturday afternoon at his late residence in this city under the auspices of Mower Post G. A. R. of which he was a member. Rev. G. F. Whitfield conducted the services at the home and the officers of Mower Post at the grave and his body was lowered to his earthly resting place by old comrades. David Olmstead Marchant was born on September 11, 1841, at Catherine, N. Y. He was the twelfth of a family of seventeen children. During the civil war he enlisted in the service on August 9, 1862, in Company C, Seventy Fourth Illinois volunteers and was honorably discharged June 10, 1865. His father and ten brothers also bore arms for their country in the great strife. On November 9, 1868, he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Mabic, who died in November, 1890. From this union two children survive, Mrs. H. B. Lilly, of Westfield and Mrs. W. W. Freuchtenicht, of St. Joseph, Mo. He came to Plymouth county in 1870, and has resided here ever since. In May, 1895, he was married to Mrs. Louisa Adams, who survives him. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Lilly and Mr. and Mrs. Freuchtenicht came to attend the funeral.
