David Patrick Kearney, son of Lester and Ferne (Frier) Kearney, was born July 22, 1951 in Sioux Falls, SD. He grew up there. Dave graduated from Washington High School in 1969. As a youth Dave began working with his father at the family business, Sioux Merchant Patrol. After his father retired in 1986, Dave took over the business and operated it until his death. Under Daves direction, Sioux Merchant Patrol remained the largest security services company in South Dakota. He also added armored car services to the business several years ago. As a longtime Sioux Falls business owner, Dave believed in giving back to the community. Through the years he was involved with the Sioux Falls Chamber of Commerce, American Cancer Society-sponsor, MS Walk-sponsor, Youth Slow Pitch Softball-sponsor, Gateway Bowling League-sponsor and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Dave was also on the Board of Directors for the MS Leadership Class and a sponsor of the MS 150 Bike-A-Thon. In addition, Dave was very active in the Sioux Falls Noon Sertoma Club and had a special interst in the Butterfly House. Dave was active in several professional associations as well, including ASIS (American Society of Industrial Security), Crime Stoppers, the Better Business Bureau, United Security Association, National Association of Private Security Industries, Defensive Tactics Institute, FOPA (Fraternal Order of Police Association Sioux Falls Lodge #1), Tri-State Peace Officers Association and National Chiefs of Police Association. Dave was preceded in death by his parents. Daves family requests that memorials be directed to the Sertoma Park and Butterfly House or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
