The community of Baker Settlement was again saddened on Thursday morning to learn of the passing of one of its most highly esteemed residents, David Purdy Bolivar, having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born at Baker Settlement in 1878, the son of the late David and Lydia (Baker) Bolivar and with the exception of some years spent in the United States lived on the homestead where he was born, all his life. The community of Baker Settlement was again saddened on Thursday morning to learn of the passing of one of its most highly esteemed residents, David Purdy Bolivar, having suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born at Baker Settlement in 1878, the son of the late David and Lydia (Baker) Bolivar and with the exception of some years spent in the United States lived on the homestead where he was born, all his life. He is survived by one brother, Silas, of Chelsea; his wife, formerly Mabel Simpson, of Simpson's Corner; five daughters, Mildred, Mrs. Livingston Bolivar of Baker Settlement; Thelma, Mrs. Arthur Wold, of West Hartford, Conn.; Edna, Mrs. Randolph Lewis, of Caledonia; Flora, Mrs. Edward Shupe, of South Brookfield; and Lydia, at home; also three sons, Maurice, Ralph, and Wilton, with whom he resided. There are also 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, besides a host of friends who deeply regret his passing and who will always remember him as a kind friend and neighbour, always ready to help in time of need or trouble. He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers. The largely attended funeral was held on Saturday afternoon with services at his late residence and later at the Union Church, conducted by Rev. H.M. DeWolfe, pastor of the United Baptist Church of Bridgewater, assisted by Rev. A.J. Schenk, of the Midville parish. Rev. DeWolfe spoke words of comfort from II Cor., 15th. chapter. Hymns sung were "Life's Railway to Heaven," a favourite of the deceased, at the house. "Sometime We'll Understand," "Will The Circle Be Unbroken," also "Good Night and Good Morning" rendered by Mrs. Elmer Bolivar and Mrs. Norman Bolivar at the church. With thanks to Rosemary Rafuse.
