Read More	"ANOTHER FATALITY: Prominent Citizen of Riverton Lost His Life Through Accident in Saw Mill." DAVID R. REMICK. Jefferson, N.H., Sept. 3rd (Special to the Democrat)-- David R. Remick, a leading citizen of Riverton, died Friday from injuries received the day previous in his sawmill. Thursday afternoon at about 5:30, Mr. Remick was making ready to shut down his saw mill for the day. He had just split a two inch plank and was running the carriage back to its place when a heavy wrought-iron dog, that was used to fasten logs to the carriage, swung out of its place and struck the large circular saw. In an instant the saw was stripped of its teeth and an inch and a half steel bar was broken in two, torn from the carriage and hurled against the lever that Mr. Remick was holding with his left hand directing the motion of the machinery. His hand was terribly mangled, the cap of his right knee was torn off and his abdomen badly lacerated. It is supposed that some of the saw teeth were driven deep into his body, thus inflicting injuries that caused his death Friday morning. A son of John Bedell was assisting around the mill and was the only person present when the accident occurred. Mr. Remick was so badly hurt that he fell to the floor and the Bedell boy dragged him into the planing shed and then ran for help. John Deering and Ernest Morse lifted him into a carriage and took him to the house. Drs. Leith, Mitchell and Stockwell were summoned and they amputated the injured hand and otherwise administered to the sufferer but their skill failed to save him. David R. Remick was the son of William Remick, long since deceased, and was about sixty years of age. He leaves a widow and one son, Ray Remick, a brother, Fred Remick of Connecticut and five sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Hayes and Mrs. Nina Gorman of this place, Mrs. J. C. Bradbury and Mrs. Gertrude Willoughby of Berlin and Mrs. Chas. Rines of Concord, N. H. He was a staunch Democrat and a highly respected citizen. Funeral services were held at the house, Sunday at two o'clock, the Rev. C. E. Clough officiating. He was buried by the Knight Templars of Lancaster and the Coos Lodge I. O. O. F. of Lancaster, Mt. Jefferson Lodge of this town doing escort duty. The beautiful and impressive burial services of both orders were rendered at the grave. Interment took place in the Riverside [Riverton] cemetery. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful and nearly 400 attended the services at the home. Music was provided at the home by a mixed quartet and at the grave by the Masonic quartet.
