He was born August 5, 1857, son of William Stanton (who was born in Ireland in 1815, came to Jones County, Iowa, in 1838 and died in 1864), and Mary Gunand Stanton, who was born in Paris, France, in 1818, came to Iowa in 1830 and died in 1894. He was born August 5, 1857, son of William Stanton (who was born in Ireland in 1815, came to Jones County, Iowa, in 1838 and died in 1864), and Mary Gunand Stanton, who was born in Paris, France, in 1818, came to Iowa in 1830 and died in 1894. David Stanton was married in 1902 to Mary Curran, daughter of pioneer parents, Timothy and Johanna Curran. They lived a short distance from the old Stanton homestead which was established in the 1830's. He is survived by his wife and five children, William, Harriet and Eileen, of Garryowen, Viola (Mrs. C. A. Hayes), Cascade, Johanna (Mrs. Vernon W Nelson), Rochester, Minn. Two children preceded him in death, Annetta (Mrs. John Duggan), who died in 1941, and David, who died in 1940. Funeral services were held from the Devaney Funeral Home, Cascade, to St. Patrick's Church, at Garryowen, Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock where a Requiem High Mass was offered by the pastor, Rev. Father O'Toole, who also conducted the burial service at the graveside. Pallbearers were Nick Rollinger, Albert Stickley John McMahon, Vince Henneberry, Gene Callahan, Lawrence Callahan, George Coyle and Joseph Noonan. Attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. John Duggan and Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Mangold, of Ryan. Mrs. J E. Mangold, Iowa City, Justin Curran of St. Paul, Minn.
