Description	:	Mr. David W. Hilyard, who died February 21, was born near Fairton, New Jersey in Cumberland county, April 1, 1827, being in his 72nd year. In 1851, he was married to Catherine F. Tomlin, also of Cumberland county, New Jersey. Four years after their marriage they moved to Mason county, Illinois in Salt Creek township on the section known as number 5, where they lived happily till his death. Read More	Mr. David W. Hilyard, who died February 21, was born near Fairton, New Jersey in Cumberland county, April 1, 1827, being in his 72nd year. In 1851, he was married to Catherine F. Tomlin, also of Cumberland county, New Jersey. Four years after their marriage they moved to Mason county, Illinois in Salt Creek township on the section known as number 5, where they lived happily till his death. By this union twelve children were born, eight sons and four daughters. Four sons, Preston J. P., Lincoln H., Edward F. and Charles B., and two daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Chester and Mrs. Hannah Jacoby survive him. Also Mrs. Hilyard is left to mourn his loss. The funeral services were held in the Presbyterian church of Mason City, conducted by Rev. J. T. Crumrine, the pastor of the church. His remains rest in the Mason City cemetery. Mr. Hilyard was a man of wide acquaintance. He had served as school director, township trustee, justice of the peace, and was an Odd Fellow of some prominence. He was always kind in his family. He ruled by kindness rather than by the rod. He leaves a fine improved home to his dear ones. His live was not in vain.
