RIDER. --- David BIRD and Martha RIDER both were under age and required consent to marry. The following warrants and marriage bonds can be found in the marriage records of Bath County, Virginia: "Mr. Stephen A Porter, Clerk of the County Court of Bath County. Sir, You are hereby authorized to issue a license of Marriage between David BIRD and my daughter Martha, and this shall be your warrant for the same. Given under my hand this 9th day of November 1840." Signed W. C. RIDER in the presence of Benjamin BIRD and Sarah CURRY. "Stephen PORTER, Clerk of the County Court of Bath County. Sir, you are hereby authorized to issue license of matrimony between David W. BIRD and Marthy RIDER. Given under my hand this 9 day of November 1840." Signed David H. BIRD in the presence of Benjamin BIRD and George H. BIRD. "Know all men by these presents, that we, David W. BIRD and David H. BIRD are held and firmly bound unto Thomas W. GILMAN, Governor of Virginia and his successors, for the use of the Commonwealth, in the sum of One Hundred and Fifty Dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, jointly and severally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seals, and dated this 10th day of November A.D. 1840. The condition of the above obligation is such, that whereas a marriage is shortly intended to be solemnized between the above bound David W. BIRD and Martha RIDER of Bath County; if, therefore, there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage, then the obligation to be void---otherwise to remain in full force and virtue." He resided first at Center, IL and then about 1850 moved to Woodstock, McHenry Co., Illinois. ----- David W. BIRD's 1st wife, Martha (RIDER) BIRD, died 27 Nov 1864 at McHenry Co., IL. David W. BIRD married 2nd on 24 Sep 1865 at McHenry Co., IL, (Vol.A, p.79). to Rosena Laverne (NORTHRUP) BOONE, dau. of Isaac and Sarah (KEEP) NORTHRUP and widow of George W. BOONE by whom she had six BOONE Children. Rosena died 19 May 1868 at Woodstock. --- David W. BIRD married 3rd on 15 Dec 1868 at McHenry Co., IL (Vol. A.,p.94) to Susan "Sally" (CHAMBERS) LAWSON, widow of John D.B. LAWSON. --- On 13 March 1869 David W. BIRD and Susan BIRD of Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois sold land to Amos CHURCHILL of Woodstock. The deed was for The NE quarter of the W. 1/2 of Lot 1 of the NW quarter of Sec. 5 in twp 44, north of Range 7, East of the third principal meridian, including Block 2, in Wicker's addition to Woodstock excepting Lots 1, 2, and 3 in Block 1 containing six acres. - McHenry Co., IL Deed Book 44, p.524. "I, B.N. SMITH, a Notary Public in and for McHenry County, Illinois, do hereby certify that Susan BIRD and David W. BIRD personally known to me as the same person whose names are subscribed to the annexed Deed, appeared before me this day in person, and acknowledged that they signed by mark sealed and delivered the said instrument in writing as their free and voluntary act, for the uses and purposes therein set forth. And the said Susan BIRD, wife of the said David W. BIRD, having been by me examined, separate and apart, and out of the hearing of her husband --- acknowledged that she had freely and voluntarily executed the same --- without compulsion of her said husband, and that she does not wish to retract the same. Given under my hand and Notarial seal, this 13th day of March A.D. 1869". McHenry Co. Deeds, Bk.44,p.524. --- David W. BIRD married 4th on 19 Oct 1873 at Muscatine Co., Iowa to Susan Marie GOULD. She died 24 Feb 1905 at Muscatine, Iowa. ---- David W. BIRD (1822-1875) died 24 Mar 1875, at Muscatine, Iowa.
