Description	:	Dayton Douglas Dierkson, 70, of Alexandria, S.D., and formerly of St. Lawrence, S.D., died Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 at Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell, S.D. Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 28 at Reck Funeral Home in Miller with Pastor Thomas Christopher of Alexandria officiating. Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller, with military honors. Casketbearers were Danny Hayes, Bill Brown, Terry Dierkson, Tom Lichty, Dean Hohm and Jim Lewis. Honorary casketbearers were all of his nieces and nephews. Reck Funeral Home, Miller, was in charge of arrangements. Dayton Douglas Dierkson was born August 5, 1936 at De Smet, S.D., to Herman and Irene (Stonefield) Dierkson. He was raised in the De Smet and Lake Preston area until moving to Miller in 1952. In 1954 Dayton joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served until 1957. He returned to Miller and married Mona Sue Droppers on June 21, 1959. Dayton worked for the S.D. Department of Transportation for several years. After that he worked at various jobs in the Miller area before returning to the S.D. Department of Transportation until his retirement. He also spent his time being a member of the V.FW. and the Miller Speedway. He is survived by his wife, Sue of Alexandria; two daughters, Skyla (Larry) Wangsness of Orient and Renee (Ronnie) Roth of Alexandria; four grandchildren, Cody (Katie) Wangsness of Wessington, Kyle (Amanda) Wangsness of Madison, Caitlyn Heezen and Courtney Roth, both of Alexandria; two great-grandchildren, Ely and Cooper Wangsness of Madison; two sisters, Jean (Eddie) Hohm of Wessington and Tootie (Jerry) Kittelson of St. Lawrence; one brother, Gordon (Joanne) Dierkson of DeSmet; and many nieces and nephews.
