His birth record identifies him as "Darius." His death record also identifies him as "Darius" (but, as I see it, the death record doesn't count because it's not an actual death record; it's a (mis)transcription of the gravestone done in 1919.) His death announcement in the Rutland Weekly Herald identifies him is "Darius," as does his wife's gravestone and the birth and death records for his children. However, he is "David" in the Rev. War Service Records, yet, interestingly, the DAR identifies him as "Darius." . OBITUARY At Benson, on the 9th ult., [January 9, 1811] after a sickness of four weeks, Deacon Darius GIBBS, aged 52 years. By his death society is bereft of one of its most conspicuous ornaments, and his friends and acquaintance, of an eminent sample of Christianity. The Baptist church to which he belonged, well knew how to appreciate his usefulness as their leader, and chief counselor in all trials and difficulties. Towards the end of his life his mind seemed to soar above the fears of death, & in some of the last hours of his sickness when he was endeavouring to place his affairs in a situation, which he would facilitate their settlements after his decease, he would often break forth in rapturous strains, crying glory to God, peace on earth and good will to all men.
