Description	:	Dean Briley, age 90, of 1815 Greene Street, passed away April 29, 2013, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Dean Albert Briley was born on a farm near Alleman in Polk County on August 16, 1922, the son of Boston and Bessie (Sutton) Briley. He graduated from Boone High School in 1940. Dean Albert Briley was born on a farm near Alleman in Polk County on August 16, 1922, the son of Boston and Bessie (Sutton) Briley. He graduated from Boone High School in 1940. On December 31, 1942, Dean married Lucille Judge in Boone. He served with the United States Navy during World War II and was discharged a Yeoman First Class. Dean was employed by the Fort Dodge, Des Moines, and Southern Railway for 27 years. He then worked for the George A. Rolfes Company and then was the Executive Secretary to the Iowa State Commerce Commission for seven years. Dean retired from the Chicago Northwestern Railway in 1982. As a youth, Dean was very active with the Junior Chamber of Commerce, serving as Boone president, and Iowa vice president, and Iowa secretary-treasurer. He served for 24 years on the Boone City Parks Commission and was a past chairman. He also served on the Boone City Parks Foundation and was a past president. Dean was one of the founders of the Boone & Scenic Valley Railroad where he was involved on a daily basis. Dean was a member of the American Legion Post #56. He enjoyed baseball, fishing, family, and traveling. Dean and Lucille visited all 50 states and Dean visited 50 other countries and all the continents. Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by a son Dave Briley and wife Cindy of Boone; two daughters Catherine Addy and Anne Gilleney and husband Bill, all of Boone; six grandchildren: Jennifer Dailey and husband Stephen, Mark Addy and wife Heather, John Addy, Kelly Wilson and wife Stacy, Matt Briley, and Aaron Briley; eight great-grandchildren: Fiona Addy, Anastasia Dailey, Neal Dailey, Kalei Bock, Tegan Bock, Jaelyn Addy, Quinn Wilson, and Nolan Wilson; two step-grandchildren Heather Nelson and husband Eric, and Chad Gilleney; three step great-grandchildren Lindsey Nelson and Lexcia and Sarah Gilleney; sisters-in-law: Margaret Briley, Charlotte Sawyer, Susan Lawler, Mary Martin, and Clare Lager; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be Friday, May 3, 2013, at 1 p.m. at the Church of the Sacred Heart. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.
