He was born October 5, 1928 in Bonaparte to Walter J. and Sadie Workman Burns. He married Clara Ella Thompson May 29, 1947 in Cantril. He graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1947, worked for Iowa Electric Co., and operated Burns Motors in Bonaparte 1957-1990 when he retired due to health reasons. He was born October 5, 1928 in Bonaparte to Walter J. and Sadie Workman Burns. He married Clara Ella Thompson May 29, 1947 in Cantril. He graduated from Bonaparte High School in 1947, worked for Iowa Electric Co., and operated Burns Motors in Bonaparte 1957-1990 when he retired due to health reasons. He was a member of Bonaparte Baptist Church and was an avid sportsman. He had played baseball, slow pitch softball, coached Little League baseball and loved to hunt, fish, bowl and play pool. He was nicknamed "Briar" by his hunting buddies and "Cap" by his bowling buddies. He had played pool in several leagues and tournaments in Iowa and other states. Surviving are his wife; one son, Kenneth Burns and his wife, Sue of Shelton, WA; ne daughter, Shirley Bartholomew of Keosauqua and her fiancé Steve Shriver of Bonaparte; seven grandchildren, Ben, Joshua, Heather and Megan Burns, Jennifer Rowe and Scott and Andy Bartholomew; and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, Gerald "Buzzy" and Charles Burns, one sister, Vanetta Simmons, an infant sister, Laura Burns and one grandson, Michael Bartholomew.
