Born May 4, 1924 at Grimes, Iowa, he was the son of James W. and Alice Bowers Brewer. He graduated from High School in Des Moines. He was a veteran having served in the Army Air Force in Japan with the Army Occupation in 1946 and 1947. He was discharged at the rank of Master Sgt. Read More	Dean Brewer, 79, Council Grove, died Saturday, January 31, 2004, at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove. Born May 4, 1924 at Grimes, Iowa, he was the son of James W. and Alice Bowers Brewer. He graduated from High School in Des Moines. He was a veteran having served in the Army Air Force in Japan with the Army Occupation in 1946 and 1947. He was discharged at the rank of Master Sgt. He also served with the Kansas Army National Guard. Dean worked for the Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative Association starting in May 1947 and worked in Florence and White City before returning to Council Grove where he retired in June 1986. He was a member of the First Congregational Church of Council Grove, Frederick Phillips American Legion Post #121, and the Council Grove Country Club, and had served on the Council Grove City Council. Dean enjoyed music, especially the string instruments like the banjo, guitar and ukulele. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, gardening and bird watching and sharing these activities with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His marriage to Hallie Ethel Metzger was on July 8, 1945 at the courthouse in Council Grove. Paulson 2-Great Grandchildren: Joshua D. Chalker and Jordan D. Chalker He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Bessie A. Warden, Wiona Brewer, Ethel M. Clark, Marie Dalton, Kenneth L. Brewer, Les James Brewer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the First Congregational Church with interment to follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mr. Brewer will lie in state at the Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home & Crematory Council Grove Chapel from 2:00 until 8:00 PM Tuesday. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Eula Corey Metzger Scholarship Fund or to the First Congregational Church.
