Dean F. Head was born on May 15, 1921, to Daniel and Edith (Holbrook) Head at Everett Township, Dodge County. He grew up and was educated in District #22 school in Dodge County. He attended Frye Air Craft School in Omaha. He entered the US Air Force on December 26, 1942, at Fort Crook and was discharged on Feb. 16, 1946, at Camp McCoy, Wi. He worked for Lockheed Air Craft plant in San Diego, Ca. Dean was united in marriage to Joan Knoell on January 29, 1947, at Hooper. After which the couple made their home in Hooper for nine years where he operated a portable mill. Dean then atended air lines school in Kansas City. In 1956 he began working for Frontier Air Lines and they moved to Riverton, Wy. In 1959 they moved to Grand Island and he continued working for Frontier Air lines as a station agent until he retired in 1984. Dean was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Platte-Deutsch, Saddle Club and the American Legion Post #119 in St. Paul. He enjoyed traveling, reading and his grandchildren Surviors include his Wife, Joan; two sons, Steven R. Head of Manitwoc, Wi. and Ronald D. Read of Colorado Springs, CD.; a daughter, Deanna J. (Mrs. David) Gaunt, Reno, Nv.; two granddaughters, Lindsey Head and Meghan Gaunt; and one grandson, Brian Gaunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and four sisters. The funeral services were held March27 at Messiah Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Reverends Gretchen Diers and Douglas Stensby officiated. Burial Was in the Hooper Cemetery in Hooper. Memorials are suggested to the Messiah Lutheran Church.
