He moved to Manhattan in 1966 where he worked at Kansas State University, Department of Housing and Maintenance. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the 11th Airborne with the U.S. Occupational Forces in Japan. He was born Feb. 29, 1924, at Waterville, the son of Merle A. and Gladys Johnson Keefover. He was reared in the Waterville area and was graduated from Randolph High School in 1943. Mr. Keefover was a member of Pearce-Keller Post No. 17 of the American Legion and Lee Pierson Post No. 1786 of Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Manhattan. He was married to L. Viola Gordon Oct. 17, 1948, at Waterville. She survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Velma J. Paulin, Mrs. Rebecca S. Cornett and Shelly L. Keefover, all of Manhattan; Mrs. Nora J. Minden, Fort Smith, and Mrs. Kate E. Morris, Balch Springs, Texas; his mother, Mrs. Gladys Keefover, Waterville; two sisters, Mrs. Ramona Steffnisch, Overland Park, and Mrs. Karen Sisk, Colby; three brothers, Wayland Keefover, Manhattan; Kenneth Keefover, Denver; and Darrell Keefover, Great Bend; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday of the United Methodist Church in Waterville. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Waterville. Mr. Keefover will lie in state from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m. today at Youngberg Funeral Home in Waterville. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
