Description	:	On November 4, 1939, Barend (Ben) and Alice Emma (Uitermarkt) Vos gave birth to their son, Dean Wayne Vos. He was born in Pella, Iowa and was the third of six children. In 1940, Dean, along with his sister Dorothy and brother Donald moved with their parents to a farm north of Pella in the Bethel Church neighborhood. Read More	On November 4, 1939, Barend (Ben) and Alice Emma (Uitermarkt) Vos gave birth to their son, Dean Wayne Vos. He was born in Pella, Iowa and was the third of six children. In 1940, Dean, along with his sister Dorothy and brother Donald moved with their parents to a farm north of Pella in the Bethel Church neighborhood. Later, they moved to a farm in Mahaska County which was west of Leighton, Iowa near Olivet. Once there, Dean attended the Burr Oak Country School. To get to school he walked each day with his brothers and sister. Dean met Beverly Louise Zickel, a daughter of Guy O. and Antoinette M. (Naaktgeboren) Zickel, at an ice cream shop in Pella and fell in love. They were united in marriage on September 22, 1957. They then began their unexpected brief married life together on a farm near Harvey, Iowa. During this time, there was lots of love, laughs, and memories made to fill a lifetime. On December 22, 1961, Beverly was taken in death at the early age of 23 years following an asthmatic seizure. This left Dean with their three very young daughters: Vicky Lynn, age 3 ½ years, Debra Lee, 2 ½ years, and Lori Ann, 8 months. The girls were taken care of by grandparents and family friends. In June, 1964, he and Judith Darlene Van Hulzen, a daughter of Gerrit and Artie (Boot) Van Hulzen were united in marriage. To this union, two sons were born: Rick Dean and Daniel Lee Vos. Dean quit farming in 1976 at which time the blended family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Dean then began building custom swimming pools, spas, and Jacuzzis, leading him to work with every aspect of home building. Soon he was building custom homes. In 1996, Dean and Rick moved back to Bussey, Iowa. Dean continued to build many homes in the areas of Pella and Bussey, Iowa. Dean continuously cared, supported, and provided for the needs of his son, Rick, following Rick’s electrical accident at the age of 18. Family was always the most important for Dean, from the time of the death of his wife, Beverly, and following the accident of his son, Rick. Dean enjoyed cooking and grilling out, leading to a 5:00 pm Sunday night dinner with all family that wanted to come. It was a special time of togetherness, memories, and love. He was also an animal lover, evidenced by the ‘meals’ he would also provide for the dogs and cats he loved. He began his work day with coffee every morning. He especially cherished his Saturday morning ‘coffee time’ with the guys in Bussey. Dean enjoyed traveling and was an enthusiastic story teller, often giggling before the punch line. Dean loved to listen and watch the train go by from his living room window in Bussey. His love of trains came from riding the train to see Beverly while she was ill in Denver years ago. He would count the engines and cars, always knowing where they were going and what was on the move. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Pella and loved his church family. On Friday evening, March 11, 2016, Dean passed away at his home with his children by his side in the home he remodeled at the age of 76 years. Dean’s spirit and demeanor will be remembered by all that knew and loved him. His family includes 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren and they are: Vicky L. Vos of Phoenix, Arizona Brien and Stephanie Jones Julie, Brodie, Ryker Perry and Kendy Jones Ethan, Ian, Max Sarah and Ramon Ventura Azariah Debra L. Vos of Bussey, Iowa Ashley and Chris Hare Seth, Aiden, Conner Jessica LaFollette and fiancée, Shannon Knapp Lori A. and Loren Kreykes of Pleasantville, Iowa Anna, Beth Rick D. Vos of Bussey, Iowa Daniel L. Vos and Catie of Spencer, Iowa Benjamin, Nathan, Jacob, Joshua, and Joseph Of his original family he leaves a younger brother, Robert E. (Jake) Vos and his wife, Sharon, of Harvey, Iowa, his brother-in-law, Gilbert (Dorothy Vos) De Jong of Leighton, Iowa; and the following sisters-in-law: Willa M. (Zickel) Hart, Linda (Zickel) Fisk, and Phyllis (Carroll) Zickel all of Pella, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beverly L. Vos; his parents, Ben and Alice Vos; his sister, Dorothy (Gilbert) De Jong and his brothers: Donald L. Vos and his wife, Eunice, Roger L. Vos, and Wesley G. Vos; along with his parents-in-law, Guy and ‘Net’ Zickel; and the following brothers-in-law: Norman Zickel and his wife, Arlene, Derald Zickel, Carroll Zickel, Bill Hart, and Larry Fisk.
