Description	:	The death of Dean Keck last week brings to and end a life that has been spent almost entirely in the Valparaiso community and taken from the midst a character who was identified with its business and community activities. Read More	The death of Dean Keck last week brings to and end a life that has been spent almost entirely in the Valparaiso community and taken from the midst a character who was identified with its business and community activities. He spent four years at Stromburg, Nebraska. Dean William Keck was born November 14, 1876, in Maquon, Illinois, the son of William and Sarah Jane Keck. At the age of 5 years he came with his parents to Nebraska where they settled on a farm near Valparaiso. Mr. Keck spent his early youth with his parents on the farm and later on farmed for himself. His father died in 1912 and his mother passed away in 1920 shortly after he moved to Valparaiso. Here he took charge of the Valparaiso Elevator and continued his management until taken ill about 18 months ago, when he fell victim to a lingering illness that resulted in his death February 24th. Mr. Keck and Miss Kamilia Bartek were united in marriage November 1, 1920. Beside his sorrowed wife he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. C. F. Burkhalter of Galesburg, Illinois, and Mrs. Martha Whitney, of Wakeman, Ohio, and two brothers, Moses and Ben of Valparaiso. All were present at the funeral except for Mrs. Whitney who was unable to attend. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon from the Methodist Church, with Rev. William Oeschger, of Grand Island, assisted by Rev. I. E. Nye. The church as filled with sorrowing friends and relative to hear the message of sympathy and tribute and the profusion of floral offerings gave testimony to the regard with which Mr. Keck was held in the community. A quartet, Mrs. Edwards, Mrs. Musgrove, and Earl Warsham, as accompanist, sang several selections. Will Hyatt, Mart Christensen, Richard Martin, John Oeschger, F. A Stava and W. C. (?) were pallbearers. Interment was made in the Valparaiso Cemetery. Dean and Camelia had no children. Valparaiso Visitor (5 March 1931)
