Description	:	On March 10, 2017, Dena Rae Grubb peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and adult grandchildren at Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah, Washington. Dena was born on August 20, 1937 in Chewelah to Mrs. Edna (Clarke) Parker and George Mackie. Dena grew up, attended school, married and raised her family in Chewelah. Read More	On March 10, 2017, Dena Rae Grubb peacefully passed away surrounded by her children and adult grandchildren at Providence St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah, Washington. Dena was born on August 20, 1937 in Chewelah to Mrs. Edna (Clarke) Parker and George Mackie. Dena grew up, attended school, married and raised her family in Chewelah. She was married to Don Grubb in 1954. Dena and Don followed construction work for several years while their first two sons were born, Don and Ron. Eventually, they made their home permanently in Chewelah and had two additional sons, Dennis and Randy. With a busy family Don struck out on his own; they started White Stone Company, later to become White Stone Calcium. With Don spending much of his time in the quarry mining and crushing rock, Dena kept the home fires burning raising four active boys. Dena was a homemaker, den mother, chauffeur — she hauled many kids to sporting events (not just her own), camp cook, band supporter, Avon lady, sports fan, yard sale and thrift store enthusiast, and she could paint and spackle or repair just about anything. She had a seemingly neverending amount of energy and was of the philosophy — ‘If it needed to be done, she better get at it.’ After her children were raised she doted on her grandchildren, grew a rose garden, loved numerous cats and was, by far, the ultimate encourager to anyone she encountered. Dena had a special knack for looking at the bright side, giving her all and sharing her deep compassion for people. Even while she was battling cancer, she would say, “If little kids can battle this, I just need to get tougher. I feel so sorry for them.” She shared “joy” wherever she was, she had a contagious sense of humor and rarely did anyone leave her presence without sharing laughter at some point. She never let the grass grow under her feet either, she was always busy, organized and kept a running list of things to do. She could cook up a storm, clean the entire house, and still have energy to visit and enjoy her family. Her presence in the lives of those she loved will be forever missed. If a verse could be applied to how she conducted her life, it would be: 1Corinthians 13:7 — “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures every circumstance.” Dena was proceeded in death by her parents, her siblings, her husband, Donnie, her son, Randy and her granddson Jeremy Grubb. She leaves behind her sons, Don (Candy) Grubb of Kettle Falls, WA; and Ron (Nancy) Grubb, Dennis (Jennifer) Grubb, both of Chewelah; 17 Grandchildren and 13 Great-grandchildren; numerous family cousins, nieces and nephews. Dena’s memorial service will take place at the United Church of Christ on April 1 at 1 p.m. Please join us for a celebration of her love, joy and life she so willingly shared with all of us. There will be time for fellowship and sharing after the service.
