Deb was pre-deceased by her parents, George and Melba Whitehead; sister-in-law, Sheila Whitehead; and her niece, Carmen Whitehead. Deb enjoyed being raised on the Whitehead farm, which was located in Claresholm, very close to the main highway. She often shared some very interesting stories from her time living there. Deb was pre-deceased by her parents, George and Melba Whitehead; sister-in-law, Sheila Whitehead; and her niece, Carmen Whitehead. Deb enjoyed being raised on the Whitehead farm, which was located in Claresholm, very close to the main highway. She often shared some very interesting stories from her time living there. That may be why she didn’t get her driver’s licence until she was eighteen! Deb excelled at most sports. In her early years, she enjoyed participating in and winning, many track and field events. Deb later became a skilled player as a Lady Pronghorn for the University of Lethbridge. Over the years she has spent her free time being a coach, player, and mentor to others in multiple sporting activities. Deb has also shared her time and talents to promote theatre in Cardston. She’s acted on stage in a few shows, helped with construction of sets, gathered props, assisted with makeup, and encouraged an assortment of actors to give their best performances. She also assisted with some of Jodi’s Dance Studio productions, and helped supervise the local school choirs. Deb’s many talents include: cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, embroidery, first-aid, computer skills, simplifying learning strategies, small animal zoo keeping, and being proficient on the nose flute. Deb earned a teaching degree from the University of Lethbridge. She started teaching in 1975. For her first two years, she was assigned to teach in a small school in Manyberries, Alberta. Deb spent the remainder of her thirty-three years of teaching, educating children at the Cardston Elementary School. She retired in 2008. Besides her family, no other thing brought her as much enjoyment as teaching! Deb’s classroom was filled with learning adventures for her students, and it was a caring home for many animals too. Deb has tutored many children, and taught English as a second language to many adults. She was a lover of books and a life long learner. Deb and Paul were married on August 20, 1983. Their family is small in numbers, but strong in spirit. Deb was dedicated to them, and was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader, teaching them and coaching them too. She was most proud of her little family! Deb is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was faithful and true to her covenants, serving mostly in the primary and young women’s organizations. She loved the temple and enjoyed serving there. Deb was proud of her husband’s opportunity to complete geometric speciality stencilling in both the Cardston and Bountiful temples. Although opportunities for an artist would have been better in Calgary, Deb and Paul chose to stay in Cardston in the shadow of the great Chief Mountain, serving this great community. Her presence will be greatly missed!
