She was born January 6, 1956 in Ottumwa to Ralph H. and Donna Jean Cox Owen Jr. She married James S. Dowd on June 23, 1984 and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2016. A 1974 graduate of Blakesburg High School, she had worked at Hormel for a short time and since 1988 she had worked in the kitchen at Hy-Vee north and south stores. She was born January 6, 1956 in Ottumwa to Ralph H. and Donna Jean Cox Owen Jr. She married James S. Dowd on June 23, 1984 and he preceded her in death on April 2, 2016. A 1974 graduate of Blakesburg High School, she had worked at Hormel for a short time and since 1988 she had worked in the kitchen at Hy-Vee north and south stores. Debra enjoyed painting, helping with the Blakesburg Antique Air Show and spending time with her kids and grandkids. Surviving are two sons, Ryan (Katie) Dowd of Rochester, MN and Tyler (Brittany) Dowd of Ottumwa; a daughter, Traci (Chad) Thompson of Clive; 6 grandchildren, Dominic, Michael, Nora, James, Kenzie and Kayla; two brothers, Ralph P. (Linda) Owen and Randy H. Owen both of Ottumwa; her mother-in-law, Betty Dowd and sister-in-law, Arlene Dowd both of Cainsville, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Lucy Dowd. Her body has been cremated. Family will greet friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be in Shaul Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be given to Wapello County 4-H.
