Edwards Succumbs After Extended Illness* Delbert Gerald Edwards, youngest son of Ellen and Charles Edwards, was born in Webster, Co., Iowa, April 20, 1877 and passed away at his home near Chambers at 2:25 Sunday morning, February 7, 1943 at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 17 days. Very early in life, his mother passed away and until the spring of 1887 he lived with his grandmother in Iowa. Then moving to Rock, Co., Nebr., he made his hame with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Fye. In 1896 he came to Madison Co., Nebr., where he was employed as a farm hand, where he met and married Blanche Radke, on April 10, 1899. To this union were born, two daughters; Mrs. Vanetta Primus, who preceeded him in death four years ago, and Mrs. Edythe Thorin of Chambers; three sons, Delbert W. of Amelia, Lawrence H. at home and Charles W. of Chambers. In 1916 the family moved to near Ewing where he spent 10 years as foreman on the W. W. Bethea ranch. In the spring of 1926 he settled near Chambers, where he resided until the time of his passing. Altho Dad Edwards (as he was better known) was not a member of any church, his deeds and acts are a living example of his inner-most convictions. Until his failing health six years ago, he was a faithful and constant church worker. For the past four years he has been a constant sufferer from complications medical science seemed unable to solve. He leaves to mourn his passing, his faithful wife, four children, ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Cora Bronson, a half sister, Mrs. Anna Wright, a half-brother, Charles Edwards, two brothers, John and William, preceeded him in death, two cousins, Mrs. Alma Cameron of Kansas and Dennis Fye of Norfolk and a host of other relatives or friends. A loving one from us has gone, The form we loved is stilled, A place is vacant in our home, That never can be filled. God in his Wisdom has recalled The soul his love has given, And tho' his body slumbers here, His soul is safe in Heaven. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. M. Elving afficiating, assisted by Rev. ALbert Harris. "Abide With Me," "Beautiful Iles of Somewhere", "Going Down the Valley, and "Rock of Ages," favorite songs of Dad Edwards, was rendered by a quartet composed of Mr. Karl Lambert, Mrs. Leatha Cooke and Mr. and Mrs. Leo T. Adams, acocmpanied by Mrs. C. V. Robertson at the piano. Lawrence Rothchild, Walt Richards, John Summerer, Albert Majors, Guy Wright and Erwin Carpenter acted at pall-bearers.
