He attended St. Boniface Catholic School until the eighth grade, living on the family farm northwest of Elgin. He entered the U.S. Army in 1946, training as a paratrooper at Fort Benning, Ga. He served in Japan, returning to the states in 1947. On Oct. 10, 1950, he married Eva Kmiecik at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Ewing. He farmed northwest of Ewing until moving to Elgin in 1973. He became an independent contract carrier for Moorman's Feed Co. In 1981, the couple established DeveL Trucking, specializing in soybean meal. Mr. Kallhoff received an honorary high school diploma in 1999 form Elgin Public School." He was survived by his wife, 7 daughters and their husbands, 3 sons and their wives, 8 brothers, 4 sisters, 29 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
