Description	:	Delbert L. McCracken, 85, of Keosauqua, died at home. He was born to Albert Dean and Margaret Jane Witt McCracken. He married V. Evelyn Carruthers December 15, 1947 in the chapel of the First Methodist Church in Fairfield. He attended Woods country school and worked as a general farm hand until he was inducted into the U.S. Army June 18, 1942. Evelyn Carruthers December 15, 1947 in the chapel of the First Methodist Church in Fairfield. He attended Woods country school and worked as a general farm hand until he was inducted into the U.S. Army June 18, 1942. He served in Europe from June 6, 1944 to January 3, 1945 and was discharged December 18, 1945. He was a combat infantryman and ammunition beared who was wounded in action in France July 20, 1944. He earned the Euopean-African-Middle Eastern Ribbon, Normandy Campaign Battle Star, Purple Heart, WW II Victory Medal, and American Theatre Ribbon. He was employed by Van Buren County Secondary Roads Department for 18 years and for 12 years by the State of Iowa Department of Transportation in highway maintenance. He was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Keosauqua, a 61 year member of Beer-Barker Post No. 113, American Legion, Keosauqua, and a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. Surviving are his wife; son, Delbert Dale (Linda) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughter, Nancy Lee Woods (Danny) of Walnut Shade, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Warren of Moville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Robert, and sister, Rose Marie Ferrel. Funeral services were held at Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua, the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial with military rites by Beer -Baker Post followed.
