Read More	ilot Tribune 20 January 1938 Tractor Upsets, Herman Farmer Fatally Injured Bert Metzler, 52, Dies of Injuries after Tractor Rolls Over Funeral Services Are Held Today Farmer Dies Two Days After His Tractor Rolled Over 10-Foot Embankment and Crushed Him as He helped Cut Wood Saturday Critically injured late Saturday when the tractor he was operating went over a ten-foot embankment, Bert Metzler, 52, farmer of northeast of Herman, died Monday evening at Tekamah General hospital. He was assisting a crew of men in cutting wood on the Chatt timberland when the tractor upset and went over the embankment, pinning him underneath. A short time later two other workers, Jay Wakefield and Orville Metzler, found him and rushed him to the hospital after extricating him. Examination showed that Mr. Metzler’s side had been crushed. Born and raised in the Homestead neighborhood near Herman, he had been a farmer all his life except for a period he spent in the mercantile business at Tekamah with his brother, Harry. He moved to his present location with his family about three years ago. Surviving Mr. Metzler are his wife, one son, Clinton; a sister, Mrs. Jay McClannahan of northeast of Herman; and two brothers, Harry of Tekamah and Will of Craig. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Shafer & Peck mortuary in Tekamah, interment to follow in Tekamah cemetery.
